This is an €7.5 million fund set up to provide seed and early-stage development capital for businesses promoted by staff and graduates of Irish universities.

It can provide from €40,000 to €600,000 for minority equity stakes in qualifying businesses in any commercial sector, including services. The main investment criteria are:

• Strong market orientation, commercial focus and profit motive
• Clearly identifiable product of service, which can sustain growth
• Sustainable competitive advantage, based on a differentiated or innovative product or service, proprietary technology, or a specialised expertise
• Investment requirement less than €600,000 (additional finance can be arranged subject to certain performance criteria)
• Management solely focused on the business
• Company based in Ireland.

The fund was established with assistance from Enterprise Ireland, under the Seed & Venture Capital Measure of the Operational Programme 1994-1999 (and now operates under the Seed & Venture Capital Measure 2001-2006 of the National Development Plan).
