The EPA’s responsibilities include:

• Promotion of environmentally sound practices through the use of environmental audits, eco-labelling, environmental quality objectives and codes of practice on matters affecting the environment
• Promotion and co-ordination of environmental research
• Monitoring of environmental quality
• Licensing and regulation of large complex industrial and other processes (including landfills) with significant polluting potential, on the basis of integrated pollution control (IPC) and best available technologies.
