Limerick Institute of Technology is a centre for research and development in the Mid-West region. The External Services Office (Colin McLean, External Services Manager, colin.mclean@lit.ie) is responsible for:

• Establishment, promotion and delivery of industrial services, to industrial, commercial, and other organisations aimed at supporting the maintenance and development of enterprises and employment and for the commercial use of Institute resources.
• Assisting in the promotion and co-ordination of research and development (R&D), technology transfer, and of other industry interactions.

Limerick IT has recently opened the Enterprise Acceleration Centre.

In March 2007, LIT will offer LEAP - the Limerick Enterprise Acceleration Programme, a one-year full-time professional training and enterprise support programme aimed at the needs of entrepreneurs in a business start-up situation, co-funded by the Department of Education & Science and Enterprise Ireland. LIT's EPP will be based in the Enterprise Acceleration Centre and will cater for 10 participants. The output of the EPP will be an investor-ready business plan that incorporates appropriate marketing, financial, operational and human resource strategies and a timeline and plan for implementation. The closing date for applications for LEAP is 26 January 2007.
