Formerly the National Food Centre, the Ashdown Food Research Centre is a division of Teagasc. Its mission is to support the development of the food industry in Ireland through excellence and leadership in research, technical development and training. It serves the meat, fish and poultry sectors, as well as vegetable, fruit and cereal processors. (The Dairy Products Research Centre provides support for the dairy sector.)

The Centre supports food companies and start-up businesses with product and business development, including product formulation and pilot-scale manufacture. Its ISO-accredited laboratories provide back-up analysis and testing. A dedicated consultancy group offers additional contract services for quality management and process improvement.
