By law, entrepreneurs are obliged by law to register their business with the Registry of Business Names, or the relevant body in the case of co-operatives, if it carries on a business under a name other than its own — in particular:

• An individual who uses a business name that differs in any way from their true surname
• A firm that uses a business name that differs in any way from the true names of all partners who are individuals and the corporate names of all partners that are bodies corporate
• A company that uses a business name that differs in any way from its full corporate name
• A person whose business is publishing a newspaper.
