Assessment: Assessing Your Team

You may not be starting your new business by yourself. You may be lucky enough to be working in a small team of like-minded individuals.

For all your sakes, and for the sake of the business, you should check to make sure that the team is all like-minded. Not whether they all support Liverpool, or vote Fianna Fáil, or even drink in the same pub – but whether they share the same understanding of what they are about to do, what risks and challenges they face, and, most important, even critical, whether they have the motivation to succeed.

Every member of your team needs to go through the same self-assessment process that you have just been through. And, when they have done the exercise by themselves, as a team you should all share the results of your own personal assessments.

It’s better for someone to say now that they are concerned about not having a regular income. Perhaps you can arrange some sort of trade-off between security and reward. If not, at least you are aware of their concerns and can allow for them in your planning.


Now move on to consider the other aspects of assessment:
